About

I have recently finished my first book, Muslim Women Online: Faith and Identity in Virtual World. This monograph is based on my PhD research; using feminist methodologies, I have analysed new interpretations of Islamic texts carried out by Muslim women in online discussion groups. The book was published this year by Routledge and can be purchased at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Muslim-Women-Online-Identity-Virtual/dp/0415596971/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320844349&sr=8-1 .

My new book project is an edited collection titled Muslim Women's Digital Geographies (http://www.muslimwomensdigitalgeographies.blogspot.com/) which brings together academics from across the world whose research is located at the intersection of gender, digital technologies and Islam.  This book will be published in the Brill series Women and Gender: The Middle East and the Islamic World.

In addition, I am a researcher at CAMRI, University of Westminster, where I am working on my small HEA-funded project that aims to deliver a digital teaching/learning resource for undergraduate students.

In November I started an Open University postgraduate degree, MSc in Social Research Methods.

I have recently (2010) worked as a Research Fellow at MAD (Media, Arts and Design) at the University of Westminster, London. I'm working on the "Building Collaboration and Engagement for Media Professionals and Academic Researchers" project which involved building and maintaining this network, and, later, carrying out a study of knowledge transfer processes which took place here.

Before that (2008-2009) I worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Leeds researching interpersonal skills in educational online forums.

Prior to my PhD I studied for a BA and a MA in Politics at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. My MA thesis, supervised by Professor Andrzej Kapiszewski, looked at the Aegean conflict in the wider context of Greek and Turkish relations. I also completed a degree in Electronic Information Processing which complemented my interest in digital media.

I support a range of animal cruelty-free campaigns and charities that do not test or fund animal testing. Please check the provided websites for information on companies that test (http://vidacompassion.org/main/list/company.html) and do not test their products or ingredients (http://vidacompassion.org/main/list/compgood.html) on animals. I have also made a conscious decision to only support charities that do not fund testing on animals (http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/CAMPAIGNS/experiments/ALL/281/).
