About

Bethan O'Leary is currently investigating sustainable management of the Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks. She has recently worked on the impact of political adjustment on total allowable catches in European fisheries. Her research methods involve the application of statistical analysis and computer modelling using Matlab.

She completed a MSc in Marine Environmental Management at the University of York in 2008 and as part of this she worked with the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation. Here she provided an independent review investigating their application of ecosystem based management and measures they could implement to improve their use of this concept. Prior to this research was conducted with Coral Cay Conservation in the Philippines on the socio-economic and biological impacts resulting from the closure of four community run marine protected areas.

Bethan's key interest is in the management of fisheries taking a holistic approach, using a combination of fisheries and conservation measures.
