About

My research focuses on the medium of stained glass and nineteenth-century visual culture. I am especially interested in the relationship stained glass has with its surrounding architectural space, and its interactions with other media including sculpture, painting, and photography. I have a broad interest in the gothic revival, especially the use of decorative arts, and the complicated relationships between art, craft and manufacture during this period.

My AHRC-funded doctoral research looks at the displays of stained glass at the International Exhibitions of Art and Industry in London, Paris, Philadelphia, Melbourne and Chicago between the years 1851 and 1900. So far research has been undertaken in the USA and Australia, as well as across Europe.

Prior to embarking on my PhD, I received my MA (also AHRC-funded) with Distinction from the History of Art Department at the University of York. I then spent a year researching stained glass collections at both The Stained Glass Museum, Ely and Yorkshire Museum, York.
